Old-school glamour never goes out of style, but it’s an especially big trend this season and is getting even bigger for the fall. Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to work the the brilliant staff and beautiful models of our “April Showers” photo shoot. Drawing on inspiration from Christian Dior’s Spring 2011 RTW collection, as well as the the 50′s vibe of the wardrobe, I gave the girls a vintage Americana look, with a bright lip to keep it modern. The result is a simple, tasteful and timeless look that is flattering on every face:
-
Step 1: Start with a creamy, full-coverage base. Keep it matte with a dusting of powder over the entire face.
**Fun Fact: Max Factor’s “Pan Cake” makeup–a very heavy, matte foundation–came out in the 50′s. Finally housewives could look like their favorite cinema stars!**
-
Step 2: Hit the area right underneath the apples of your cheeks with bright rouge. No contouring on this look–we want to look as monochromatic as possible.
-
Step 3: Draw a thick black cat-eye along your upper lid. No liner on your lower lash-line.
-
Step 4: Cover lid from lash-line to crease with a warm bronze shadow.
-
Step 5: With a darker bronze, hit the outside corner of your lid. Pull the color along your crease, to the middle of your eyeball.
**Quick Tip: If you don’t have bronze shadows, mix gold and brown. Use darker brown for a darker bronze.**
-
Step 6: Dab a shimmery, champagne-colored shadow or cream on your brown bone (just below the arch in your eyebrow) and along your inner corner.
-
Step 7: Add two coats of black, volumizing mascara to your upper lashes.
-
Step 8: Apply a thin coat of concealer over your lips to keep your color on.
-
Step 9: With a lip brush for precision, apply any color lipstick (I’m using a mix of hot pink and bright orange).
-
Step 10: Dab on a matching eyeshadow (or translucent powder, if no shadow matches) on top of your lipstick to make the color matte.
