Thoughts from the Editors
We are so excited to share STITCH’s "Rhythm Issue” — which takes interest and inspiration from the relationship between music, culture and fashion.
From fabric billowing in a smooth pattern to bold, dance-inspired looks, the visuals of this issue aim to show how rhythms play a part in style and aesthetics. Apart from photos, our writers reflected on our current culture and evaluated how music shapes fashion, trends come in and out of fashion like a pendulum and the disguised rhythms in their own lives and experiences.
In putting together this issue we reflected on our own favorite intersections of sound and style. For Grace — the Hubert de Givenchy and Edith Head costumed musical Funny Face, starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire — which she saw at a young age, served as the ultimate example of music bringing life to emotions and fashion bringing tangibility to music. The red capes, pink gowns and copious driving gloves added an insatiable dimension to the sight and sound of the 1957 ode to Paris and its fashion culture.
Alexander always had a fascination with pop culture, music and fashion, but it didn’t spark until he watched VevoOfficial music videos while living in San Mateo, Valparaíso, Zacatecas, México. Lady Gaga’s Artpop, Charli xcx’s Sucker and 3BallMTY’s Intentalo albums not only diversified Alexander’s music taste, but inspired him to express himself through his clothing while bumping some incredible music. Avant-garde high fashion looks from the runway, elevated preppy uniform and extravagant cowboy outfits shine elegantly through a variety of rhythms. We hope STITCH’s Rhythm Issue allows you to explore different perspectives, reflect on your experience and be inspired to follow a new beat.
