What’s the STITCH?: Sweaters on Campus

Graphic by Carly Witteman.

Sweater weather has officially hit Northwestern! With the days darkening and the temperatures dropping, there’s no late-fall wardrobe essential that can compare to the humble, beloved sweater. Like reliable beater shoes in summer, sweaters are the staple you can always depend on to get you through the chilly morning walks to campus or the midnight crawls home from Mudd during midterms. They’re a cozy compliment to any fall outfit, and fun prints and patterns can make any gray day exceptionally bright.

If you’re in need of inspiration, take a look at some NU students’ knits and what makes them the perfect sweater for the season.

I’ve had this sweater for so long. I think I got it for Christmas from my mom, from Urban Outfitters, when I was a sophomore [in high school]. I just love how soft it is, and I love that it’s rainbow because I feel like that’s like my personality, so I love it.

I got it as a birthday present from Scotch & Soda, and I like it just because it’s really thick and warm and soft. I like the colors and the turtleneck, too.

I got it from Crossroads (of course). It’s sort of the perfect sweater because I have a bunch of colored pants that match different colors in the sweater perfectly, and I like looking like an Easter egg.

I think I got this sweater at Crossroads, which is one of my favorite thrift stores, although it’s a bit expensive. I love it because it’s very colorful. I like to make a statement sometimes. This is my happy mood sweater, so it just makes me happy to wear it.

I got it four years ago at Forever 21, and I like it just because it seems very Christmas-y, and it makes me feel warm and nice.
