While Chet Haze might have been the major celebrity attraction for attendees at the Waa-Mu Fashion Show this evening, we were there to see another famous face. Northwestern’s own Zoe Damacela designed ten unique looks that were put on display to raise money for Waa-Mu, the University’s most famous musical revue that celebrates its 80th anniversary this year.
Although she is only a freshman, Damacela has already made a name for herself around campus and the city of Chicago. Earlier in the year Damacela was interviewed for North by Northwestern where she discussed her work with such fashion icons as Tyra Banks and her budding entrepreneurial pursuits.
Damacela’s collection for the Waa-Mu Fashion Show included a variety of her most popular pieces. From the styles we saw, we definitely had a few stand out favorites. The multicolored tweed, double-breasted jacket, worn by model Molly Baltimore, was a knockout and the perfect weight to transition between winter and spring in Chicago’s difficult climate. Damacela featured many short pieces that would be ideal for a night out downtown, but our absolute favorite was the floor length peach hued dress worn by Ally Wierema. The sleeveless cut, collar and asymmetrical hem made the look more sophisticated and unique than the others–perfect for a spring formal or other elegant function.
Through and through, Damacela stays true to her design aesthetic – fun, colorful, young and accessible pieces that are sure to turn heads all the way up Sheridan Road. Although this is just the beginning of Zoe Damacela’s fashion career at Northwestern, we are already excited to see her grow and show as a designer on campus.
