When Fashion Meets Reality

I’ve been a Bachelor addict for as long as I can remember. Like all Bachelor fanatics, this season, I was obsessed with fourth place contestant Corinne Olympios. Her hilarious one-liners and drama with many girls in the house made her an iconic character this past season. So, when I saw that she came out with a fashion line, I was immediately intrigued. I wondered who would actually buy these shirts, which feature some of Corinne’s most famous catchphrases. Yet reality TV stars have become so much more than people who cause drama on TV. Many of them have made successful transitions into the fashion industry and have become so much more than a star of your favorite guilty pleasure show.

Lauren Conrad was once just the star of the MTV reality show, The Hills. Yet today, Conrad’s reality TV days are a thing of the past. Most people know her for her successful fashion lines Paper Crown and LC by Lauren Conrad. Her reality TV fame certainly helped launch her career, but she took initiative to dominate the fashion world all on her own. While it can be hard to be taken seriously after a career on reality TV, Conrad, one of the most loved and fashionable characters on The Hills, was able to jump start not one, but two successful fashion lines.

Conrad is not the only reality TV star to change her reputation. The Simple Life star Nicole Richie has a line called House of Harlow. While before she was known as a rich party girl, entering the fashion industry has helped her form a more sophisticated image.

Of course, the reality stars currently dominating the fashion and beauty industry are the Kardashians. They have become so much more than just a drama filled family with a reality show. Kendall is an extremely famous supermodel, Kylie’s beauty products have become an instant sensation, and Khloe’s Good American jean line is becoming extremely popular. Not to mention that the sisters own a boutique called Dash and Kendall and Kylie have their own fashion line. The sisters have gone from C-list reality stars to A-listers in the fashion world.

Perhaps everyone’s obsession with reality TV has made it so easy for these stars to transition into the fashion industry. Reality TV has become so prominent in society, and this has transferred over into the fashion industry. These stars see their fame as a chance to become more than just a reality star and many of them have become leading fashion moguls.
