Recap: Oscars Red Carpet 2019

The Oscars is one of the biggest fashion events of the year. Each year poses new and eye-catching looks, and this year was no different. Here are some of the most memorable outfits from this year’s Oscars red carpet:

Pink seemed to be quite recurring at the Oscars this year. Maybe people were still feeling inspired by Valentine’s Day? Nonetheless, we saw a lot of this color.

Actress Gemma Chan did not shy away from wearing both a statement silhouette and color in this bright pink Valentino gown. It was refreshing to see such a fun and whimsical dress go down the red carpet. What makes this look successful is her styling; she went for an understated hair and makeup look in order to counterbalance the chaos of the dress itself.

Would you believe it if I told you someone wore an even more over-the-top pink dress than Chan did? Well, it happened.

Singer Kacey Musgraves showed up in this tulle, layered, embellished creation by Giambattista Valli. It mimics something that a young child might dream up. Similarly to Chan, Musgraves opted for minimalistic hair and makeup. I do feel, however, that Musgraves was less successful with this look. Maybe it was just a bit too much tulle or the bedazzled bow at the front of the gown, but in my opinion, something pushes this dress into costume territory, and it is difficult to take it seriously as fashion. I do, however, give her serious props for her boldness

We also saw some more refined and sophisticated looks at the Oscars. One of my favorites was Amandla Stenberg wearing this beautiful Miu Miu gown. The fit was absolutely impeccable. Her hair and makeup were the perfect complements to this classy yet sexy look. It’s hard to believe that this actress is the same one who played young Rue in the Hunger Games.

For better or for worse, these looks stood out to me. But, it is hard to choose just a handful of looks to display. Here are a few more of my favorites:
