It feels weird to be nearing the end of the year—especially since I’m working in New York this summer. And with a new stomping ground comes the incentive to outfit myself in new clothes and indulge in all things New York (not that I won’t let my West Coast roots shine through). Here’s my wish list of summer essentials:
I’m a huge 4th of July devotee…enough so to justify the purchase of these disgustingly patriotic shorts. | 617 Vintage American Flag Short, RunwayDreamz $162.00 Though I used to have an aversion to rompers, I just can’t get enough of them now. It’s summertime and they’re perfect to play in. Central Park, here I come. | Sleeveless Earl Romper, $278.00 A movie combining Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Thomas Hardy, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and Michael Caine (Alfred is without hesitation my favorite character) is undeniable. I’ll indulge my inner comic book freak at the midnight showing. | "The Dark Knight Rises" For me nothing epitomizes summer more than a new season of SYTYCD. I’ve spent a lot of time laying on my stomach in awe at the impressive dancing…not to mention Cat Deeley’s constantly changing wardrobe. | "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 9 I grew up visiting my parents’ favorite bakery in New York, William Greenberg Desserts. The black and white cookies are heaven and I dream of them all year long. Now I have an entire summer to indulge! | Black and White Cookies at Greenberg Bakery I’m in denial that I will be spending seven long weeks without the beach, so I’m drowning my sorrows in retro inspired, seersucker bathing suits. | Xhilaration Juniors 2-Piece Orange Striped Bandeau Swimsuit, $14.00-$16.00 I clearly have a problem with buying things in patriotic colors. But what can I say? I love America, colored straw, and structured bags. | Stripey Straw Jane’s Friend Elaine, Marc by Marc Jacobs, $258.00 These are so outlandish and bright and clashing that they’re pure perfection. I’m subverting the classic East Coast standard of Sperry’s as a preppy staple. I already know these will be worn over and over again with the jean shorts I’ve had since 7th grade. | Sebago Neon Leather Spinnaker Boat Shoe, $100 I have a problematic obsession with tie-dye. I realize it’s slightly childish, but I tie-dye every summer with my brother on our deck, and wearing these shorts in pretty, sophisticated shades of my favorite spatter print will remind me of home. | Elizabeth and James Dixon Printed Denim Cut-Off Shorts, $185 Bloc Party and Skrillex and Passion Pit and Alabama Shakes and the Golden Gate Bridge: I’m so in the Bay, trick. | Outside Lands 2012
