With so many nail polish and design options these days, it can be hard to find a manicure that’s both fun, hip, and—if you’ll admire the pun—polished. My favorite fail-safe combination involves a gold basecoat layered under a chunky silver glitter topcoat, which creates a gem of an optical treat (the puns are coming fast and loose today). While silver glitter polish is great for a wide variety of looks, it can sometimes skew immature. But with a gold basecoat to provide a slightly metallic foundation, the individual sparkles disappear and all you really see is the light reflected off of them. The end result: an intriguing mixed-metals look.
- Polishes used, from left to right: Essie’s “All in One Base,” Sally Hansen’s “Gilty Pleasure,” Essie’s “Set in Stones.”
- Apply base coat to clean nails.
- Cover nails in gold. I love Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure line.
- We all make mistakes. Some more gruesome than others.
- Glitter time!
- Ah yes, my precious.
- So simple.
