MODA, University of Chicago’s fashion organization, hosted their annual spring fashion show at the beautiful Great Hall of Union Station last Friday. The pre-show atmosphere was abuzz with blaring dance beats and mingling amongst members of Chicago’s stylish set. The goody bags, hors d’oeuvres, and drink kiosk added to the refinement of this fashionable affair. VIP guests, press, and photographers took their seats in wooden benches that lined the S-shaped runway as the lights were lowered. Models emerged from grand arches at the front of the hall and an array of designs was showcased. Among them were evening gowns, party dresses, naval-inspired looks, and a futuristic interpretation of casual wear. Novice student designers trained in MODA’s designer boot camp made the majority of the featured designs. MODA also enlisted the help of Rent the Runway and Ann Taylor. Proceeds from the show were donated to Dress for Success, an organization that supports women worldwide by providing them with appropriate work attire and career development opportunities. The 2012 MODA Spring Fashion Show was a memorable affair that mingled style with substance.
