While the spring collections are walking and the focus is on next season’s trends, one thing is definite: color-soaked apparel, from belts to hats, rules the rues. For those of you not in French 111: rue mean street. (It was too easy.)
Perhaps stemming from the eternal color-blocking trend, retina-bursting hues liven up an outfit quicker than your eyes’ cones can adjust (thank you, 12th grade anatomy class!). Colors like cerulean, lime and mint take on new beauty with pumped-up intensity, especially when paired with neutrals.
And unlike some street-style trends that don’t easily translate to real life – i.e. studded everything and 15-inch heels – color-saturated clothes work for just about everyone. Evidence: this J. Crew sweater could do fewer wrongs than Emma Stone’s pre-Academy Awards Nicole Kidman homage.
I also love this trend because there’s a piece for every budget. Color is unlimited, unlike in The Giver (thank you, 7th grade English class!), so until nature starts giving us some we can provide our own. And Whole Foods has apples.
