If there’s one thing I love more than cheap wine and Blaine from Glee, it’s a sturdy pair of chunky-heeled boots. Let’s face the facts: stiletto heels are still sexy, but how are they going to get you from Foster-Walker to Ridge on a tumultuously icy and unfortunately typical winter night without snapping in half or launching you into a full-on face plant? That was a rhetorical question—they’re not, and that’s where Jeffrey Campbell comes in. His legendary LITA platform booties first came out in July of 2010, flying off the shelves and literally changing lives. Since then, the LITA has inspired numerous designs, though none quite match the brilliance of the original.
Thick heels are practical in many ways—they offer better support, a more secure footing and are generally much more comfortable than skinny heels. My own 5.5 shoe size isn’t exactly ideal for wearing heels, but I have no trouble walking the walk in a pair of chunky-heels, especially because I’ve got an odd obsession with height (I’m 5’3 and have a minor Napoleon complex).
Practicality aside, chunky-heeled boots are hot. They go perfectly with your circle scarf, your camel coat and even your glittertastic party dress. Need I say more?
