As someone who has gone through tubes and tubes of mascara, let me tell you: it’s not easy to find a good tinted mascara. If I like the color, it might flake and run really easily; if it’s a good, long-lasting formula, it’ll take ten coats to see the color and not just the mascara on my lashes. I first found a really good tinted mascara in Yves Saint Laurent’s Volume Effet Faux Cils, which not only was really pretty on, but came in a pretty gold tube. The Electric Blue was a stunner and I got a lot of compliments on it when I wore it.
However, I only wanted to wear it on special occasions, and after wearing it pretty infrequently for about five months, I was dismayed to find one day that the tube had dried up; I was also pretty upset because it had cost me $30. I still wanted to find a great blue mascara, though, so I kept looking.
While Sephora’s house brand can sometimes be disappointing (see: their line of kohl pens), their Full Action Extreme Effect Mascara in blue is a great substitute for YSL’s Faux Cils. It’s vibrant on the first coat, so you don’t have to cake it on to see the effect, and it stays on your eyelashes and off your face. I can’t promise a miracle if you decide to wear it and watch Toy Story 3, but aside from tears, this mascara will stay on for a long time. The best part? It’s $15; half the price of YSL, and you can get it online.
